I’m Wendy Bell, Broker of Record here at Ottawa True North Realty. I’ve been licensed in Ontario since 1987, and for more than 35 years I’ve had the privilege of helping families and Realtors navigate the Ottawa real estate market.
Since returning to my hometown of Ottawa in 1994, I’ve worked through every kind of market - the highs, the lows, and everything in between.
Along the way, I discovered that what truly makes this career rewarding isn’t just the transactions. It’s the people, the relationships, and the culture we build together.
In 2003, I was awarded the opportunity to open a Keller Williams Realty franchise in Ottawa. At the time, I had never run a brokerage before ... but I rolled up my sleeves, leaned on my values, and grew that office to over 100 agents.
I’m proud of that milestone, but even more proud of the culture we created. Together, we built something that went beyond sales - a brokerage where giving back, supporting one another, and serving with integrity became the standard.
Making a Difference Together
Every year, I had the joy of leading our agents in community initiatives: BBQ fundraisers for Pathways to Independence, food and blood drives for the Ottawa Food Bank and Canadian Blood Services, Habitat for Humanity builds, volunteering at the Ottawa Mission, and annual “Laughs for Charity” gala events that raised tens of thousands of dollars for causes like Do It For Daron (youth mental health) and Prostate Cancer research. These weren’t just events ... they were moments where agents discovered the power of contribution and community.
When one of our agents' spouse was diagnosed with prostate cancer we decided to host a gala evening to raise funds in support of that family! The turnout was phenomenal and it felt so good to be able to contribute to this meaningful cause. We have since been able to host this event 3 times and have raised over $50,000 for prostate cancer research.
R.E.D. Day at Our Brokerage
Every year in May we support various charitable groups in need of volunteers, and many of our agents join us that day as we give back to the communities we serve. Throughout the year, we make meals or provide other support for those in our Brokerage who have an illness or bereavement, whether it is just providing some home-cooked meals or other support our agent needs.
The Ottawa Mission Thanksgiving Fundraiser
5 years ago, we started a new initiative at our brokerage. At Thanksgiving, we raise funds and purchase frozen turkeys and meals for the less fortunate in our city, served by the Ottawa Mission. We believe that kindness, and sharing what we've been blessed with is important. Even though no one person can help everybody - everyone can do something to help somebody... and that does make a difference.
Growing & Becoming
As Broker of Record, I also carried the responsibility of supporting my agents in their day-to-day challenges. I worked alongside them through compliance questions, arbitration, and difficult client situations. I became known as a problem-solver - someone who could think logically, draft custom clauses when deals weren’t “cookie cutter,” and stand in their corner when they needed support the most. That’s still one of my greatest strengths, and one of the things I value most in this role.
Over the years, I also had the privilege of helping design and open several brokerage offices across Ottawa - from negotiating leases and working with architects, to overseeing construction and creating professional spaces that agents were proud to call their business home. I’ve served on committees with the Ottawa Real Estate Board, been invited to serve as a Director, and even spent a year on the CREA Finance Committee, which gave me a national perspective on our industry.
A New Chapter
And now, in 2025, I’ve taken everything I’ve learned and poured it into building Ottawa True North Realty - an independent, all-Canadian real estate brokerage serving Ottawa and the Valley. This brokerage is my vision fully realized: a place where agents are supported, clients are respected, and communities benefit from the work we do together.
Ottawa True North Realty isn’t about chasing numbers or following someone else’s playbook. It’s about creating a brokerage where culture, support, tools, and contribution all come together - so agents can build businesses they’re proud of, and clients can feel the difference when they work with us.
